Beginners ask themselves numerous questions about how to use Twitter to do it right. It is for such people that the following tips will ensure a trouble-free start. Check out our 10 tips for beginners in the world of Twitter.

This is how we find top topics

Here, on the example of a smartphone application, we will learn how to use Twitter and become a real expert, on a PC everything works similarly. To shake things up on Twitter, we first need to know the hottest current topics. To do this, click on the magnifying glass icon. A list of topics that arouse the most interest will appear, for example, during the pandemic, the coronavirus was high under the hashtag #koronawiruspolska. Hashtags on Twitter are thematic slogans with the # symbol on the front.

How to use Twitter: our first tweet

Let’s assume that we were inspired to write our first tweet by a concert we watched. To create a tweet, we tap on the circular box at the bottom right. We enter our text. To make our post more attractive, let’s add a photo or video to it, which we can further beautify by touching the icon with a brush. In order for other users to find our tweet, we should add a hashtag to it. After typing the hash # and typing the letter, a list with hashtag suggestions will appear, we choose the matching one. Then we touch on Tweet.

What’s going on in the Twitter-Feed

How to use Twitter? We can react to tweets in different ways: if we want to reply, we do it with (1). With (2) we retweet the tweet to our followers (followers). Heart (3) means I like it. Under (4) we will find more sharing options. For example, you can send a tweet as a direct message or share it on Facebook. To track the user, we touch (5) and select the option at the top.

This is how we will become famous

If we are wondering how to use Twitter to reach the widest possible audience, we must keep a few rules in mind. First, let’s follow users with similar interests, and use the magnifying glass icon to search for authors or musicians we like, for example. Then, using the buttons described in tip 3, we like, comment and retweet their tweets. However, if we want to have a larger audience, we need to tweet intensively ourselves (see tip 2). Let’s write about important topics or those that are currently in demand (tip 1), not forgetting about hashtags. Let’s also tag other users with @ to force them to react. Good tweets are witty, angry or sad, in short – they evoke emotions. Or they only inform or contain interesting reflections – let’s not make it up, because this is fake news.

We plan tweets in advance

There are many external programs that will make our Twitter existence easier. One of the best is Buffer, which can be used to create a schedule for publishing tweets – Twitter itself does not have this useful feature. We create an account in Buffer, in the account selection we tap on Twitter, enter our data and tap  on Authorize application. Through a circular box with a pencil at the bottom, we will prepare several tweets that will be published at the selected time. This is very useful if, for example, we have a blog and we want to share posts via Twitter. After typing a tweet at the bottom under Share, select the Custom schedule option, set the selected date and confirm by Set time. Then we repeat it and this is how we set up a string of tweets.

Twitter privately

Actually, Twitter is public – however, we can use it privately and only interact with friends. At the top left, tap  the button, then Settings and privacy and Privacy and security. Here we enter the selected privacy settings – the most important ones can be found at the very top: if we move the slider next to Protect my Tweets to the right, our tweets will only be seen by our followers. We will also have to agree to the tracking of our account by other users.

How to use Twitter well? We stick to the rules

Twitter is a public network, so there are certain rules that we should stick to. The official rules will explain what we can do and what behaviors we should stop doing if we want to use Twitter well.

If another user irritates us or does not behave properly, we can block his Twitter profile. To do this, tap on the corresponding profile and the arrow to the right of the name. A drop-down menu will open, from which we select Block profile @name. From now on, we will have peace.

Unlike Facebook posts, tweets cannot be edited after publication – in case of an error, only deleting them will help. This is done by pressing the arrow to the right of the tweet and tapping Delete Tweet.
